TuneCore Vs Landr | Which Music Distributor Should You Go For?

In order to make a career as an artist and musician, writing, recording, and producing your songs is only half of the story.

Arguably, music distribution and promotion is as equally important as the creative process, if not more. As you may already know, uploading music directly to Spotify and Apple Music is not possible. Instead, artists should sign up with music distributor services to upload their songs for them

In a perfect world, you might be signed to a record label who will handle all of this for you! However, if you're not there yet, that's okay, you will be soon! For now thought let's discuss TuneCore vs Landr.

Among the companies that offer such services, TuneCore is one of the most established names in this business. With several years of experience as a music distributor, TuneCore is one of the safest choices for artists who want to take their work to the next level. However, many companies have risen above the competition for offering a much wider range of services.

Starting its work in 2017, Landr has recently attracted a lot of attention as a music production and distribution powerhouse. Besides uploading your music to all of the major streaming platforms, Landr offers lots of tools that can help you in your music production and promotion journey. However, their services cost noticeably more than those of TuneCore.

In this post, I will tell you everything you need to know about each of these companies and determine which one is the right fit for you. So let's dive in on this comparison of TuneCore vs Landr.

TuneCore: Straight To The Point And Reliable

If you’re looking for a reliable music distribution service, TuneCore can be precisely what you’re looking for.

The company has recently updated its plans and pricing, starting with a free service that offers distribution on social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. In return, TuneCore will take 20% of your revenue from these platforms.

This is a pretty good deal if you just want to "test" release a song on Spotify. For instance, let's say you're an artist and you release a lot of songs but don't want to pay for it up front, this could be a good option for you.

If you want your music available on streaming platforms as well as social media, then you should opt for TuneCore’s paid plans. For $19.99 a year, the “Rising Artist” offers the best value among the plans offered by TuneCore.

It covers all the basics and allows you to upload unlimited tracks to all the major platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Tidal, TikTok, Instagram, and much more. With this plan, All the revenue you earn will go to your pocket. Moreover, you’ll get access to official sales reports, you can schedule your releases, and you’ll get a verified artist page on Spotify.

TuneCore’s most expensive plan, the “Professional,” offers everything previously mentioned plus some tools that are particularly useful for artist managers and independent labels.

You can upload music under different artist names, have access to exclusive promotional opportunities and brand deals with companies like Twitch and Brand Ambassador, and get expert advice from TuneCore on how to grow your audience. The Professional tier costs $49.99 per year. You can add additional artist names for $14.99 per artist profile. The professional plan on TuneCore could be a great option for you if are a very serious artist or perhaps you might even want to start a small indie label.

Landr: Production, Distribution, And Promotion In One Package

Relatively new to the industry, Landr offers a lot of unique tools and services to stand out in the competition. Landr’s services come in two tiers: Studio Standard and Studio Pro.

The Studio Standard offers unlimited music distribution across all the major platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music, and that’s just the surface of the stuff you get. You’ll have access to premium courses for using the world’s most popular DAWs and plugins for production, mixing, and mastering, 2 million royalty-free samples, and extra plugins and tools worth over $2,000 from partners like IK Multimedia and Arturia.

Probably the most important tool in Landr’s arsenal is its AI-assisted mastering plugin. You’ll have access to the SE version of this plugin with the Studio Standard plan. It works seamlessly with all the major DAWs like Logic Pro, Pro Tools, FL Studio, and Ableton. It allows you to master unlimited MP3s and up to 36 WAV format masters each year. The Studio Standard plan comes at $11.99 per month (billed annually for $143.88).

The Studio Pro tier covers everything previously mentioned. However, instead of the SE version, you’ll have access to the PRO version of Landr’s Mastering Plugin. The PRO version features some advanced tools for perfecting your song output and allows you to bounce unlimited WAV files. It comes at $15.99/month (billed annually for $191.92).

It is worth mentioning that, regardless of what plan you opt for, you’ll keep 100% of your royalties and streaming revenues. Lastly, another advantage of Landr over most other distribution companies is that your releases live forever. Some other companies, including TuneCore, will take down your songs from streaming platforms after 42 days if you don’t pay for your subscription plan.

Landr is new to the game but already has quite a compelling offer. I'm very interested to see where they decide to go in the next few years as we compare it to TuneCore.
